JAPANESE ANTIQUE LIDDED 1 DRAWER PAULOWNIA WOOD TANSU CHEST SHAMISEN STORAGE BOX - $145 - (Portland, OR)
This is an antique lidded tansu box made of Japanese kiri (paulownia) wood in the early Taisho era (c. 1915). It was specially constructed to store a shamisen (Japanese 3 string instrument). It is precisely fitted with a lid that fits nicely on the top. It has one small drawer on the bottom to store strings or plectrum for shamisen (see pictures 9). It is well made with beaded rounded corners and all wooden peg construction (see the last picture). Having been used lovingly for nearly a century, along with a warm glowing patina, it still remains in very fine condition. It measures 9 3/4" by 10 " by 14 1/2" tall ( 24 x 25 x 37 cm). Whether using to store your shamisen or something else precious, it is a fabulous storage box.
