Remarkable c.1907 studio Real Photo Postcard of a member of the Improved Order of Red Men fraternal organization dressed in a beautiful costume and wearing an amazingly elaborate headdress..... The Improved Order of Red Men was established in 1834. However, as noted in Wikepedia, their origin really goes back to December 16, 1773, when a group of men—all members of the Sons of Liberty—met in Boston to protest the tax on tea imposed by England. When their protest went unheeded, they disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, proceeded to Boston harbor and dumped 342 chests of English tea overboard (Boston Tea Party)... From that point on the culture of the organization became structured using a Native American model. Its members dress (albeit loosely) as Native Americans. The striking Real Photo has an AZO stamp box with corner triangles facing up and down and is in excellent condition and GUARANTEED to be vintage and not a reproduction or later copy.
