Rare 1900 ca. Ichimatsu Japanese Traditional 18" Doll -Papier Mache? Gofun? - $100 - (Algoma, WI)

According to the hang tag on this doll's arm, this is a Japanese traditional doll that is called an "Ichimatsu" play doll. It is a rare doll, 18" tall, from 1900 ca. He has a papier mache or gofun swivel head on a shoulder plate. His midsection is a heavy papier fabric and he has cloth floating upper arms and legs. He has a human hair wig and black eyes that could be glass. Not sure. His ears and his nostrils are pierced. There is some paint loss on his lips and there is some light spots on his left cheek. I think he could use a light cleaning but I didn't want to attempt it. His kimono is a heavy cotton fabric with heavy cotton lining. It is homemade and is excellently made. It could be considered original if that is the only clothes he ever had but it is not factory made. It was a pale pink that has faded and yellowed over the years and could use a vintage soak. Overall, I would say he is in very good condition. I will include the hang tag that he came with. He is a real sweet doll that is fun to look at when he's displayed.
