Welcome to Latelier Salon Art Gallery Museum Quality 16th Century Tapestry The Country Meal "The Country Meal" is part of a series entitled "Les Amours de Gombault and Macce", inspired by a very popular poem by Henri BAUDE (born in Moulin in 1415). Les Amours de Gombault and Macée are a pastoral theme in vogue especially in tapestry and engraving in the sixteenth century. These works depict the ages of peasant life through the existence and loves of a shepherd and a shepherdess. In the sixteenth century, the golden age of tapestry in Oudenaarde, more than half of the population worked in the textile industry that made the city of Flanders famous throughout Europe as one of the most important Northern tapestry. In his work: "De OUDENAARDSE WANDTAPIJTEN" (the old tapestries) of Mr. Florent Van Ommeslaeghe, appears on page 158, the tapestry kept in Oudenaarde which represents: "The Country Meal" preserved in the Mou Museum of Oudenaarde.
