Antique Lacquer Paper Mache Mother of Pearl Blotter Letter Folder c1840 - $195 - (Inverness, NS)

an exquisite Papier-mâché, lacquer blotter / letter folder / folio, with scrumptious mother of pearl roses - surrounded by hand painted flowers. On the other side is a large hand painTed roses with unusual blue & green shimmery shell flowers - absolutely lovely! one side has tiny mother of pearl 'feet' and a border of mosaic mother of pearl & gilt edging. the spine is black velvet - probably a replacement as its in very good condition - usually the spine on these blotters are in poor shape. The dainty paper lining is also probably a replacement as its in pretty good shape - although still has some age. This is very similar to one I had in previously that was dated 1840... Size: Closed: 9" x 12". Weighs 560g / 1.3lbs Condition: Lacquer has a few smudges & a little minor crazing. Velvet spine is probably a replacement as is the lining - although that is vintage - its probably not original. A few nibbles to the Papier-mâché corners - all commensurate with great age.
