1934 Gibson L-50 Spruce and Maple - Sunburst Archtop - $2,500 - (Barto, PA)
1934 Gibson L-50 in excellent condition. Lovingly kept by the same owner since 1948. Arched spruce top, arched maple back and round soundhole (features unique to the 1934 L-50). The original elevated celluloid pickguard is fully intact, as is the original adjustable ebony bridge. Sunburst finish has aged beautifully, with no cracks or excessive wear evident anywhere. There is a small patched hole (about 1/2” wide) where someone had apparently installed and removed a pickup on the lower side near the tailpiece (see photo). Otherwise, no issues. The neck is tight and solid, the action is fast, intonation is excellent, frets are only lightly worn, and the sound is wonderfully clear and resonant with the kind of huge volume and tonal range that come with a round soundhole and a 16” lower bout. Whether you play with a flatpack or finger style, this L-50 hits the mark for jazz, swing, ragtime, blues, Django, and on. The tailpiece, end pin, and Waverly tuners are replacements, all in excellent condition. A sound and solid 1934 L-50, with an arched spruce top, an arched maple back, a round soundhole, and a 16” lower bout--an unusual find, especially one in exceptional condition.
