Vintage 1940's 50's JACK DAVIS Original Art NY St. Albans Saints Baseball Team - $1,000 - (Chrisman, IL)
Vintage mid-1940's newspaper ORIGINAL ART illustration art by JACK DAVIS. I did limited research and could find no reference to St. Albans Saints baseball team, Wally Klauss, the manager, and Henny Eul, the owner, and the objects of this art. There is reference on the art to the team being on an island, and the best player, Pete Hanley being in the Air Corps, and the Brooklyn Dodgers, so I'm guessing it's from the mid-1940's or 50's and from the New York area. Pen and ink drawing with charcoal pencil shading art is in very good condition and signed by Davis at the right middle edge. Art measures 11" by 14". Some of the white out correction has darkened with age as has the art paper onto which the art is drawn. There is slight browning around the edges and some soiling at the bottom of the page. On the reverse is the clue that the art took up 4 col(umns), Saturday, Sport, so I KNOW it is illustration art from a newspaper of the era. SEE PICTURES. Please ask any questions before bidding. Selling from my own collection with a Buy It Now but I will entertain reasonable offers. THANKS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
