This lacquer plaque is an original, hand-painted plaque by the Russian artist, Divyatkina. This plaque was hand-made in the village of Kholui, Russia. Kholui is rural settlement in the Ivanonva Oblast. The Kholui school is a diamond in the rough and produces some of the finest artists on the planet! The lacquer plaquees made here are similar to Palekh in materials. They are constructed from tempera paints and painted on papier-ma^che´ plaquees. Once the painting is complete the plaquees are lacquered and polished many times to create the fine finish that all of the Russian lacquer plaquees have in common. The Kholui school was originally opened for Russian Icon Painting in the late 1800’s. However, a group of artists opened a workshop on painting miniature lacquer art.
