Confederate rose (Hibiscus mutabilis) is not a rose, as its common name suggests, but is actually a hibiscus. The plant is also known as cotton rose due to its buds, which resemble cotton bolls. Confederate rose grows in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 7 through 9 and blooms from summer through autumn, when it sports large white double blooms that turn pinkish-red after a few days.
