"Baghdad" by Taha Baqir Director General of Antiquities 1st Edition 1959 - Rare - $100 - (Madison, WI)

This is the original, 1959, first edition copy of "Baghdad" by Taha Baqir, Director General of Antiquities. The pages are not numbered, but there are approximately 26 pages of photos and 14 pages of text. The text is divided into two sections: "Historical Sketch" and "Monuments". Some tearing at the binding (see photo). A water stain at the bottom (see photo). The inside pages are, for the most part, in great shape. Taha Baqir was an Iraqi archaeologist, author, cuneiformist, linguist, historian, and former curator of the National Museum of Iraq. Baqir is considered one of Iraq's most eminent archaeologists. Among the works he is remembered for are his Akkadian to Arabic translation of the Epic of Gilgamesh, his decipherment of Sumero-Akkadian mathematical tablets, his Akkadian law code discoveries, and his excavations of ancient Babylonian and Sumerian sites; including the ancient Sumerian city of Shaduppum in Baghdad.
