Extremely rare Noritake Ani-mates ceramic musk ox by Kiyotada Itoh - $159 - (Klamath Falls, OR)

Super rare and highly desirable Noritake Ani-mates musk ox sculpture. These were issued by Noritake in very limited numbers in the 1960s & 1970s. Very little is known about the artist Kiyotada Itoh who made them. Before becoming a ceramic designer he was a fine artist specializing in printmaking. His series of figurines was designed to compete with the Scandinavian mid-century modern figurines being produced with great success at the time by the likes of Lisa Larson, Kaarina Aho and others. This figure features the honey brown "Albany" glaze. The abstraction almost into cubism is very appealing, hard geometric lines while still retaining the essence of what makes the animal. Perfect vintage condition. original label on bottom as shown. Musk Ox measures a substantial 8.5" long x 5.75" tall. It has what looks like a small chip but is and out word bubble that flaked off and a scratch but also under glaze and smooth to the touch.
