IG Farben was both the largest company in Europe overall and the largest chemical and pharmaceutical company in the world. Petrol was first sold under the Leuna name in 1927, and the company entered into an alliance with Standard Oil in 1929. Broken up by the allies after the war, Leuna's refinery was in East Germany and used to supply the Minol monopoly service stations. Leuna was a prolific map issuer in the 1930s with a combination of sheet maps, city maps and "Zapfstellen" atlases. The Western chain was renamed Gasolin after the War and was apparently acquired by Aral in the 1950s. Description of item This 1939 Zapfstellen atlas or “petrol map” consists of 30 pages with pages 1-19 unfolding into a square map at 1:925,000, in color (red, green, and blue), drawn by Ravenstein. This Leuna Zapfstellan-Atlas is in good to fair condition with minor wear and a few tears. The front binding is imprinted with the words “Deutsche Gasolin Aktiengesellschaft.” Pages are numbered 1 through 30.
