The lid of this magnificent French-made Triade humidor/jewelry box is inlaid with a fully provenanced ancient Egyptian winged scarab ornament dating to the Late Period, 715-730 B.C. The scarab comprises the glazed faience body and two separate wings, with lapis-blue pigmentation and decorated with darker purple-blue wing stripes. The box itself is made from mahogany, veneered on the outside with yellow bird's-eye maple, and edged with ebony (dim: 28cm x 22.3cm x 10.2cm). It contains a hygrostat, humidity regulator and key.
