Teresa Mestres was born in Vilanova i la Geltru city south of Barcelona, Spain.His father moved to New York as Chancellor of the Generalitat of Catalonia and after the end of the Spanish Civil War, and his family remained in America the political exiles, so began to pilgrimage leading the painter to know countries like Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and finally Peru where I have settled down, studied chemistry and literature in Argentina and Peru and there is no branch of art that I have not studied, but I have overturned painting in order to create his own student workshop in Lima.He has exhibited in Peru, Spain, France, Venezuela, El Salvador, Chile, Argentina and the United States. In 1960 he received the Peruvian Fine Arts Society award and in 1989 the special prize for peace in Buenos Aires.
