CHINESE EXPORT SILVER COVERED GOBLET c1820 SUNSHING CANTON A very rare c1820 Chinese export silver covered wine goblet. From Sunshing. Listed in Canton from c1790 to c1830. The identical hallmark illustrated plate 274 in Forbes. One of only 3 covered goblets we have owned in 40 years. The bowl with scene of Chinese men at table being served mid day meal, dwelling and lush foliage. Raised shield never monogrammed. United by classic grape and leaf on stippled surface oval panels. Boldly cast dragon handles. Slender urn shape knop with leaf and floral. The base carved with continuous figural scene. Seated elder being served tea, traveler, figures at games table, pine trees, dwellings and foliage. Original cover with dragon head rising above rolling clouds. Both cover and base with original gold. The c1820 covered goblet 8 3/8 inches and weighs 10 3/4 standard ounces. Signed as shown. Excellent condition. Rich silver patina, retains most original detail. Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.
