"MUSASHI NAOHIRO" KATANA IN SHINGUNTO KOSHIRAE - $2,500 - (Ruther Glen, VA)
A WWII Japanese sword (Katana) by sword smith MUSASHI NAOHIRO, in excellent condition with shingunto koshirae (fittings).A good Shin-Gunto,with 64.2cm - 24 1/8" Showato blade, with a most unusual hamon which returns around the end of the blade.The blade with o-kissaki is in excellent polish with hamon of regular alternating ko-gonme which retrns on the mune into muneaki, extending back down the main hamon for a length of 17cm. A very unusual hamon effect similar to utsuri but solid. Signed Musashi Naohiro, a smith listed in Fuller & Gregory, oshigata no.296, still working in 1965. Good condition regulation mounts and metal saya with all its original green painted finish which has the remains of a surrender label attached.The ito is a blue/green color, which appears original indeed.
