It was made using 100% Paulownia wood. The iron fittings were hand made. It has a unique secret compartment hidden behind the bottom drawer requiring access from the back of the top drawer all of which is hidden by a hinged door (sometimes called a thieve's door). Sliding doors have beautiful details of flowers. The Choba Tansu was used by merchants and was traditionally displayed prominently in shops to impress customers. These chests display elaborate metal hardware that is meant to make it look important and catch the eye of the customer. This traditional Japanese furniture will be a great addition to any home decor. It is nicely refurbished.
