Ric 4001 bass - $1,700 - (Santa Barbara, CA)
A 'vintage' 4001 circa '80. Likely played in smoke-filled clubs as the bass has tanned areas in the original faded white finish (cool patina!). This RIC 4001 is so nice - 80's RIC style/playability. $$'s tight and I don't play it much. Seymour Duncan mid-body PU installed (by Riley, #1 tech @ SD) - HUGE tonal/output level improvement (orig PU/hrdwre incld). Markley Helix strings [perfect on RIC basses]. One 'issue' on 4001's is truss rod design. Most folks aren't savvy to the 4001 'dual' truss system, sometimes resulting in neck separating from fretboard requiring a specialist's fix. Master Jim Lombard repaired mine and yes (of course!) it's 'perfect', however, a 're-finish repair' was not done [his take on refinishing the repair sight: why(?) - it functions perfectly and isn't detectable while playing].
