Antique 1896 Wooden Putnam's Cloth Chart Tool w/ Original Box Fabric Sewing - $150 - (Guthrie Center, IA)

This is a wooden (I've only previously seen metal, dated 1907+) Putnam's Cloth Chart. The inside of the box reads "Designed for Accurately Measuring Cloths Wound on a Board Without Unwinding." The chart reads "Putnam's Cloth Chart , copyrighted 1896 , A.E. Putman Mfg., Milan Micch. It is in very nice condition. Measures 20" long x 7 1/2". It comes with the original Box. The ends of the box have been taped and the top of the box has some staining as picture shows. The "instructions" for using the measurer are on the intact on the insides of boxes and are in very nice condition. This instrument measures fabric in bolts of cloth and it has intricate scales on both the wooden section and on one of the metal slides which presumably enables one to measure the length of cloth left in a bolt after taking the thickness of the fabric and the diameter of the bolt into consideration.
