1937 DISNEY ANIMATION CEL OF SNEEZY, BASHFUL & DOE SNOW WHITE & SEVEN DWARFS Offered here is this original (not a reproduction) Disney "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" animation cel retailed by Courvoisier Galleries of San Francisco circa 1937. This cel features "Sneezy, Bashful and Doe" together amongst 2 raccoons, a squirrel and a yellow bird. Good condition but has been reframed in the past. It is pencil signed at the bottom left corner with the names of the dwarfs featured (see pictures). The frame measures 12" tall and 12" wide. The cel is in good condition and is under glass. In 1938, an art dealer named Guthrie Courvoisier was looking for something fresh and obtainable he could represent in his San Francisco Gallery. At a time when post impressionism, realism, cubism, modernism and all sorts of other new "ism's" were being contested by other representatives, Guthrie turned to a man whose visions and renderings were not even considered true art: Walt Disney. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs had just hit the theaters, not only delighting but also astonishing audiences. Running 83 minutes, the world's first full-length animated feature in color and sound took two years, an astronomical $1.5 million, a hundred plus artists, and a half million original drawings to create. Traditionally discarded by moviemakers, Courvoisier thought the animations behind this revolutionary film were so subtlety colored, true in line and warmly expressive he envisioned selling them as art to collectors and museums worldwide.
