ANTIQUE MAKER MARKED S. C. GALLUP SADL CO. WESTERN LEATHER RIDING CUFFS - $650 - (Teague, TX)
These are a rare pair of western riding cuffs by the well know maker S. C. Gallup. The cuffs are in great condition. The border tooling stands out. They have two spots on each, which have excellent patina and a snap with a Greek key design. The maker used heavy duty leather that has aged well with normal wear from use. The makers mark "S. C. GALLUP SADL CO. PUEBLO" is very legible. The right cuff shows a little more wear, obviously a right handed person. Samuel Caldwell Gallup was born in 1837 in Huron County, Ohio. In 1878 he was appointed the 1st Fire Chief of Pueblo. In 1880 he took on the famous R. T. Frazier as an apprentice. Later they formed the S. C. Gallup & Frazier Saddlery Company. The cuffs measure 6" tall and 4" wide.
