About the Listed Artist : Miriam Hadgadya was born in Russia, she moved to Israel where she was the first woman to attend & study at the Bezalel Art School...She was an outstanding & talented painter in the 1920's in Tel Aviv....An accomplished & listed artist, she used different mediums to express herself through her art & she has numerous auction records. About Batik Art: Technique of wax - resisting,dyeing,applied to whole cloth or cloth made using this technique. Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap. The applied wax resists dyes & therefore allows the artist to color in one color selectively by soaking the cloth in one color, removing the wax with boiling water & repeating this process if multiple colors are desired.
