Heathkit Hero 1 Robot early production example This one also from OSU Heath Kit - $1,050 - (Noble, OK)

This is the second of three that were purchased from an OSU sale. It is as complete as the first. (The last one is less complete and will probably be sold locally.) ----- I purchased three of these units from the same sale and after looking over them it seems that all the date codes on all 11 of the circuit boards are identical between the three indicating that they came from the factory in very close succession and most likely no boards have been exchanged.   This is a Heathkit Hero 1 robot from Oklahoma State University. The OSU tag can be seen in one of the pictures on top of the robot.  I can remember these from the programming magazines I was subscribed to in the early 80s. (Sadly my TRS 80 no longer works but I still have it.)  This robot appears to be complete with the exception of the plastic side skirts and possibly a front wheel cover?  I have no way of testing it but I have looked it over very closely and noticed only one physical issue. The clear plastic shroud that protects the wires to the arm is damaged. One of the pictures shows a close up of this. Taken after I removed the arm to prep for shipping. The wires themselves do not appear to be hurt.  These robots appear to have spent most of the last three decades in storage. They are in very good condition for their age.  If I'm reading the date codes right all the circuit boards were made in late 81 to early 82 so this is no doubt an early first year example. The 6 V 4ah batteries were removed as they appear to be original and no doubt are no longer any good. Why add the extra weight to shipping? I have many more pictures and will cycle them through occasionally until it sells. The picture with the damaged wire shroud will be left in place. A very helpful eBayer during the last sale provided the following information: Sixgundan wrote: "BTW - The W in ETW indicates that this robot was factory assembled and not built by someone who may or may not have been good at soldering" Thanks for the info…
