Not only is this certificate rare (I don't know if any other ones still exist or not; I haven't found any others online), it is especially rare, possibly 1/1, due to the President of the company, C.H. Kellogg buying the stock and also signing the stock as President. Newcastle Building and Loan Association was incorporated May 23, 1889 in Newcastle, CA. Capitalized at $1,000,000. Certificate #240. Printed by Crocker and Co. 5 Shares at $200 per shared made to C. H. Kellogg. Investing $1,000. Dated May 9, 1905. The secretary is Ed Katzenstein. The President is C. H. Kellogg.
