General Santa Anna Mexican Army Texas Revolution the Alamo custom 1/6 12" figure - $80 - (Osage City, KS)

This is a custom 1/6 scale 12" figure commemorating President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, General of the Mexican Army that attempted to put down the Texas Army in the Texas Revolution for Independence. The state that is now Texas was at one time a province of Mexico. The Texas revolution came about when American settlers there decided they were tired of an increasingly authoritative Mexican government. There had been a decade of political and cultural clashes between Americans and the Mexican government. The settlers disagreed on whether independence was the goal or a return to the Mexican Constitution of 1824. While the debate was going on some Texans and some volunteers from the United States defeated the sparsely populated Mexican garrisons in the area. This caused President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to vow to avenge Mexico's honor. Santa Anna decided to personally see to the matter. His army invaded Texas catching the Texans off guard. The Mexican Army was comprised of soldiers for the most part that felt like they were defending their country from rebels threatening their way of life. The Mexican Army outnumbered and outgunned the Texans and their volunteers from the United States. Santa Anna's army marched through Texas defeating all the Texans in their path. The Texas army survivors that surrendered were mostly executed. A turning point in the revolution came from a battle fought at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Bexar. For thirteen days a group of about 180-200 Texans, United States volunteers, and local civilians held off anywhere from 1500 to 5000 soldiers of the Mexican Army. Among the people that died defending the Alamo in this battle were Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Travis. The Battle of the Alamo rallied the United States volunteers and the Texas Army which swelled in ranks. Santa Anna was eventually defeated and Texas became independent.
