First edition of Speedy in Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson, extending the series by L. Frank Baum. With color plates. Heavily illustrated by John R. Neill. Copyright 1934. The “Reilly & Lee” mark on the spine is in small type. Booksellers grade: very good. Some defects but pages pristine. 298 pages. 12 color plates. The front cover is a color plate pasted to the cloth-covered board. No scuffing. Small bend at lower right corner point with crack to plate. No edge chips. A white mark on the back cover. Overall rather good and bright, with remarkably sharp corner points on back and top of front cover. Binding is tight. Front endpapers have parted slightly but back endpapers remain snug. Interior binding still traps. No markings on any page except a pencil “1.50” price on the front endpaper. All pages in fine shape. Given the acidity of the paper, the book is in remarkable condition, with no yellowing. This copy was handled with exceptional care and stored carefully for all its years. The 27th of the Oz books. First edition market price is $1,000. Offered here with a starting auction price over 70% below market.
