Burleigh Grimes Autographed National League (Feeney) Baseball Burleigh Arland Grimes (1893-1985) was one of 17 pitchers, masters of the spitball, exempt from the 1920 ban of the unorthodox pitch. Grimes utilized the spitball during his 19-year career with seven different clubs; Pittsburgh (1916-1917, 1928-1929, 1934), Brooklyn (1918-1926), New York Giants (127), Boston (1930), St. Louis (1930-1931, 1933-1934), Chicago (1932-1933) and New York Yankees (1934). Over his well-traveled career in the Major Leagues, Ol' Stubblebeard won 270 games with 1,512 strikeouts and a career 3.53 ERA. Grimes was a member of four National League pennant winners and one World Series championship team – St. Louis Cardinals (1931). Grimes retired as the last official spitballer in 1934. The Veterans Committee elected Burleigh Arland Grimes to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. - The baseball has an even brown tone throughout. PSA/DNA COA: AA17968
