Schimmel upright piano 116C - $6,400 - (Denver, PA)
I’ve been a piano technician for 18 years and worked on over 10,000 pianos, and I’ve never played an upright with a better sound than this – not even taller Schimmels. As soon as my former boss unpacked it, I knew it was the piano for me. I saved up for over a year and it has never disappointed us. I have no idea what Schimmel’s engineers did to create such an astonishing sound, but the bass in particular sounds like a 6’ grand. Truth be told, though, I’m not a good enough pianist to do it justice, and after 15 years it’s clear my children won’t be either. At this point we need the money more than we need a world-class piano. I’m a piano tuner by trade, and I’ve kept this well in tune its whole life. However, with an internal dehumidifier system I’ve found it remarkably stable. Under ordinary home conditions it can go two years without shifting pitch even slightly.
