Vintage 1953 Gibson EB-1 Violin Bass Guitar & Gibson Case & Telescopic End Pin - $7,999 - (San Jose, CA)
Vintage 1953 Gibson EB-1 Violin Bass Guitar SN: 3 2481 Just arrived in our shop, a collector owned vintage 1953 EB-1 on consignment in overall excellent. This Gibson bass is amazingly well preserved and comes with its original hard case, stand, and cable. The back of the bass body has a number of dimples and blems and there are also a number of light hairline pick scratches on the front and back of the body. The EB-1 was issued in 1953 and was Gibson's first electric bass guitar. The EB-1 has a solid mahogany body finished with a brown stain, and a raised pickguard. It has a 30.5" scale set neck—rather than the 34" scale of the Fender Precision Bass or the 41.5" scale of the 3/4-sized upright bass favored by many upright bassists of the time. To appeal to upright bass players, the EB-1 has a telescopic end pin so bassists can choose to play the EB-1 in an upright position, as well as horizontally. False f-holes and purfing on the body imitate the appearance of an upright bass. The EB-1 has planetary banjo tuners, rather than the right-angled tuners of most other guitar and bass designs.
