Vintage -Style All Tube Reverb Unit - Hammond AO-44 - Mullard Tubes - $399 - (Danville, IN)
Custom built all-tube stand alone reverb unit. Supposedly built by an engineer, seems plausible looking at the build quality. Probably not built that long ago, but all vintage parts from a Hammond M-100 organ. Speaker codes reflect 1961 date code. Has a pair of vintage Mullard 6GW8s, original to the Hammond AO-44 reverb amp chassisSimilar to the Gibson and Fender units of the 50s and 60s with one HUGE difference. This one is designed to go between your amp and speaker and has its own pair of speakers creating your "wet" sound. Your amp and speaker cab continues to create the dry signal, the way it was designed to work it its original organ application. Will also work with combo ams that have an extension speaker jack or clip on to the speaker contections. This allows you to keep your pedals in place without the reverb unit in the chain (Fender units can get a bit dicey in an effects chain). It also allows unlimited gain changes without contantly re-adjusting the reverb level. Essentially, it put the reverb after the power/output stage of your amp, just like if it was built into the amp.Really well built. The cabinet was made from the original organ's cherry veneer cab. Bobby, at Getchell Amplification, checked it out. Runs cool, all is working well. We paired it up with a Blackface Fender Tremolux...with jaw dropping results. Outstanding vintage spring reverb. Excellent with vintage gear but will work in high gain applications too. On the business end of a Getchell Invader, we were getting into EVH "brown sound" territory".Roughly the size of a Fender unit, not too heavy either...a must for an all-tube signal chain.
