RARE Antique 1900s DRI-GAS Fire EXTINGUISHER Fancy GLASS CYLINDER w/Orig MOUNT ! Up for auction is an extra nice condition old fancy glass cylinder fire extinguisher and its original metal mount from the Dri-gas company in Chattanooga, Tenn. Very unusual fancy ornate diamond quilted cut glass cylinder complete with the original red painted heavy metal mounting bracket. Still has the original brown powder inside the glass cylinder. Lots of writing on this one, too. Glass is embossed around the top Dri-Gas in script followed by FIRE EXTINGUISHER CO. CHATTANOOGA, TENN. in block style letters. Then PATENT APPLIED FOR on the backside. Embossed on the bottom is the words DIRECTIONS - THROW CONTENTS AT BASE OF FIRE WITH QUICK SWING MOTIONS. Research indicates these were made from about 1900 until 1915 and were primarily used on your nicer 1st class passenger railroad cars. The photos show the items physical condition. Overall length is about 11-1/2 inches, about 3 inches across. No chips or cracks, no damage at all to the glass cylinder, still has original brownish powder inside, looks to be an unused example to me, the metal mounting bracket shows no signs of ever being mounted, some light paint loss and surface rust, nothing bad - its in all original and untampered with condition and you would be hard-pressed to find one any nicer - Check it out !!! These early glass type fire extinguishers are pretty hard to find anymore rare and typically not found with the wall bracket and dry powder still in it.
