Superb Pr. 19th Century Pastel / Gouache Paintings in Orig. Lemon Gilded Frames - $250 - (Crystal River, FL)
A very nice pair of pastel / gouache paintings of a Hudson Valley romantic scene - each painting appears to be done by the same hand and includes a young lady in a long red dress and hat in each of the noted scenes. These pastel / gouache paintings are both done on paper and laid down in early paperboard (original that way, not something done later). Paintings are bright with the first showing some discoloration in the upper right margin of the sky (in the very corner) - the second painting shows spots above the large central tree as well as the upper left margin (corner). Paintings are framed in their original period 19th century lemon gilded frames - frames have wear and loss to the gesso but are displayable just as they are. These 19th century paintings are not signed on front, but are noted as being done by Jennie B. Eaton on reverse (possibly a later pencil addition from a family notation). Each pastel measures 21 1/4" by 16 1/2" inches within its frame.
