We are pleased to offer one of the rarest Blue Historical Staffordshire pitchers we have owned in many years of collecting and selling - an American scene illustrating the Monument to the Naval Heroes of the War of 1812, two men standing on shore and pointing out to boats, and banners under the monument saying WASHINGTON INDEPENDENCE TRUXTON. Jeffrey B. Snyder in his book, Historical Staffordshire (2nd edition, 2000, page 112) identifies this as from the Famous Naval Heroes series. Thomas Truxton captained The INDEPENDENCE and several other war ships during the American Revolution "with much success, capturing a number of vessels."
