FRENCH 64 th. REGIMENT BUTTONS, BATTLE OF YORKTOWN, 1781 - $179 - (Gore, VA)

FRENCH 64 th. REGIMENT BUTTONS, BATTLE OF YORKTOWN, 1781 This pair of French 64th Regiment (Artillery) officer’s large coat & waist coat (vest) buttons were found many years ago in the French artillery position just west of the British defenses near Windmill Creek. They are in such great condition they do not look like they were found on the battlefield! The large coat button is 7/8” diameter with a large raised 6.4 in the middle surrounded with a single line that has branches where the ends meet on top & the shank is still intact on the back. It is a greenish color on the front & a grayish color on the back. The vest size is exactly the same but is 5/8” diameter but has a small damage to the edge & still has some good Virginia dirt still attached. . They were bought directly from the historian’s family who found them by James Anderson in 1947. French buttons from America are very rare & ones from Yorktown are impossible to find these days & are very seldom seen at antique or militeria shows anymore! The Anderson Collection had over 1500 + artifacts from Virginia that were collected over 50 years of collecting.
