W & T Avery, Birmingham apothecary scales, 19th century with box, and bag of weights in grams, drams, etc. Scale plates are of brass suspended by cord with steel balance. This type has been used for centuries and one, nearly identical, is in the Thomas Jefferson collection at Monticello. See pg. 359 Lewis and Clark: Across the Divide, 2003 Smithsonian. Used very little and only by me for living history demonstrations at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Condition is very nice with only little wear considering the age. Book not included, for reference only.
