Unknown Maker Sterling Silver Hanoverian Rat-Tail Tablespoon, London 1723 - $99 - (Marblehead, MA)

A lovely Hanoverian rat-tail sterling silver tablespoon made by an unknown maker in London in 1723. All the marks are readable apart from the maker's mark, which is rubbed. The spoon is a hefty 67 grammes in weight and there is a beautiful engraved heraldic crest to the top of the handle of the head of a bird erased (hawk or kite, perhaps). L: 7 3/4in/19.5cm; W: 67g.
