unusual Edwardian era dress w white rickrack lace skirt, batiste bodice, sm size - $100 - (Newark, DE)
I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and I always look for vintage clothing and accessories. This is an antique bodice that I believe dates to the 1900s. It is white and long with long sleeves, and could be a tea dress or could be bridal. This dress has many unusual features: the skirt is covered with a panel of open lace made with white rickrack stitched in star shapes with delicate connecting threads - an early example of rickrack lace, and very pretty. The bodice opens down the front and is made of fine cotton batiste. There are 17 buttonholes (hand stitched) down the front, but the buttons have been removed. In the back, the bodice is plain and the waistband goes all the way around; the rickrack lace carries over to the sides of the back, but in the center there is an insert of plain white cotton that is gathered very full at the center back. Please use the zoom function to check all the great details. This dress also came with a detached pair of sleeves made of the rickrack lace on the outer side, with insides of white solid cotton, which I've tried to show in the photos. They precisely fit over the solid cotton sleeves. measurements, all taken with the garment lying flat: 13.5" across front from shoulder seam to shoulder seam; about 16" across front at underarms; 12" across front at waist; about 19" sleeve length from shoulder top to end; 13" from center back top to top of waistband; about 18" across front at hip level; 38" length from waistband to hem. Please note that the back of the skirt has additional width from the gathers. This is in remarkably good condition for its age. It was a bit stained as I found it, but soa
