1937 Kay Upright Bass C-4 #1738 - $4,200 - (Arlington, WA)
This bass is a real players bass. No rattles or weird sounds, very easy to play and a fantastic tone! I've had this bass for about five years and I get it thoroughly checked out yearly. All the joints are solid, bass bar and sound post are in great shape, nice arch under the bridge and the neck has never been broken. The nut, fingerboard and tailpiece have been replaced by ebony ones, other than that it's all original. There are several surface scratches, but nothing that inhibits the tone, construction or playability. This bass also includes a Mooradian bass bag and a Fishman Full Circle pickup. I paid $4,200 for it five years ago and would like to get that out of it. This is the very first year Kay made the upright bass and there are only 24 of these documented.
