1941 Vintage Fisher Price Wooden - No.170 American Airlines Flagship Airplane - $250 - (Cleveland, GA)
I am offering for bid this RARE - 1941 Vintage Fisher Price No. 170 AMERICAN AIRLINES FLAGSHIP WOODEN PLANE. It is one of Fisher Price's RAREST and MOST INTERESTING TOYS and is in what I would call good condition for its age and for being a Child's Toy that was played with. In the 1987 Fisher Price Rarity and Value Guide it listed for 300.00 and up ( if all the Parts were there and it was Mint) . Well this is 30 years later and this Airplane is not Mint but I figure it has increased somewhat in Value since then. So I am listing it and Pricing it according to that. This Airplane was said to be the first Fisher Price Airplane and the first Advertising Toy. The Airplane is a Replica of a DC-3 Airplane and has a realistic shape with colorful Lithographs. The two Engines have heavy fiber Propellers ( with part of one missing - see photo ). It has two Wooden Wheels under the Wings and the Metal support that the Airplane rests on under the Tail is still there. All of the Paper Lithographs - on the Sides - Body - Top of Wings and each side of the upright Tail Wing are intact - but do show normal wear consistent with age. The Lithographs on the Body show pictures of 7 Passenger Windows - Cockpit Windows and a Door. The color of the Airplane is Orange and it has a Blue Stripe down the center and an American Airlines logo on the back. The Lithograph on one Wing is marked "AA" and the other Wing it is marked " NC 5000 ". The Tail Wing is marked " NC 5000 " with the Fisher Price Logo. Each Wing has a Round Blue Wooden Engine with a Spinning Propeller that is supposed to spin as the Toy is pulled - but they do not. It is also supposed to have a Engine sound that roars as the Toy is pulled - it does not. The Airplane is approx. 14 in. Long ( Nose to Tail ) with a Wing Span of approx. 20 in.
