Normal 0 1801 $10 Capped Bust Gold Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint in Almost Uncirculated (AU) condition, certified by NGC as a Details gold coin for some faint hairlines. Being 217 years old, we can only guess to the handling and or circulation the coin has undergone. However, we purchased it for its detail and overall eye appeal. In our opinion, the coin is a very solid Choice AU in the AU-53 to 55 range. The expected natural and original darker butter yellow surface color remains and show whatever happened to the coin was a long time in the past, allowing the surfaces to largely "heal". A decent example of the largest size of early Federal Gold, the relatively minor problem allows us to discount this considerably from the $28,000+ level that this usually commands.
