Jackanapes by Juliana Horatia Ewing, with illustrations by Randolph Caldecott, published by the Society for Prmoting Christian Knowledge, London, 1884. This 6"x8-3/8" hardback book is bound in cloth and pictorial boards and is in about good condition with rubs and wear to extremities and edges. Original bookshop sticker on front of book is from Gilbert & Field Booksellers, London (for those of you who collect these). Previous owner's name written inside front cover. This copy of this scarce first edition work has the original covers. There is some age darkening to endpapers, binding is tight and sound. It has the rare pictorial color pictures on front and rear cover by Caldecott. Please see scans. Front cover has 1884 date, as does title page. Above the title on front is printed, "One Shilling." by publisher. This has these first edition first state points...frontispiece ill. listed as p.38, last word p.27 is 'why'. See photographs below.
