Rare and Unusual mid-18thC Georgian Silver Rat Tail Mustard Spoon, London - $24 - (Plymouth, MA)

A rare and unusual Georgian Old English pattern sterling silver mustard or egg spoon made in London in the mid-18th century. The spoon is marked with a lion passant to the back of the stem and with a maker's mark that appears to be I*I. Grimwade lists a similar (unregistered) mark for John Innocent but notes that it might also be John Jackson II, since both are listed in the Parliamentary Report of 1773. The spoon is in good condition, with surface wear commensurate with age, and has no mono. The rat tail to the reverse of the bowl is the really unusual feature for such a spoon. L: 4 1/2in/11.5cm; W: 10g/0.32 troy oz.
