ENGLISH STERLING TEA CADDY URN 1777 SAMUEL WOODS SATYR HEADS A rare early George III sterling covered tea caddy (See Jackson reference). Selling 40 year collection 18th and 19th century silver. Well over 400 examples. From Samuel Woods in 1771. Known exclusively as a cruet specialist. Large forms such as this almost non-existent. Tapering urn petal gadroon trim Cast satyr's heads. Cover with raised pone cone and leaf, body embossed and chased with winding grape and leaf. Streaming bead and leaf, shell cap handles. Never monogrammed. Hallmarked under base. This 1777 Satyr's head covered tea caddy is 10 inches tall and 36 1/2 standard ounces. In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. Stands perfectly firm on table or display shelf. The satyr heads and floral retain near original detail. Mild wear. Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax.
