Walterboro, SC South Carolina 1918 Quad Map -- Rare Colleton County - $685 - (Florence, SC)
Original 1918 quadrangle map by US Corp of Engineers - War Department of the Interior. Walterboro, Colleton County, South Carolina. Obviously surveyed using areal photos ie bi-planes. Rare map showing school houses, crossroads and other landmarks later deleted on subsequent maps. With Roosevelt's 1930's New Deal, these quadrangle maps were resurveyed to reflect new roads, improvements, etc. Therefore, on later more common issue maps you'll not see roads, landmarks etc deleted from earlier / this series map. For instance, follow the road from Walterboro to Jacksonboro... a hard right toward Bonnie Dune needs to be made if you're headed to Jacksonboro....not seen on post New Deal maps. This map would be great for genealogist and or old house site hunters..metal detectors etc....anyone familiar with the area. Not a copy and displayed in a period oak frame with gilted gold insert. Cost to duplicate this frame would be prohibitive. A suitable " similar" frame for such a frame would exceed $300. You'll never see another like it. I had the map rolled up for years and then found / restored this frame which I think is the first time an acquired frame actually fit something ... precisely. I've had it for years - don't really want to let go of it but perhaps time for someone else to enjoy. Any questions -- pls advise.
