Vintage Antoine Courtois Alto Sax - $5,000 - (Fergus Falls, MN)
This is a Antoine Courtois Alto Sax. Made in Paris. No apparent serial number on this sax. There is also an emblem on the bell that says "HORS Concours Chicago 1893 St. Louis 1904". From my research I would Estimate that the sax was built between 1904-1910. I have had this sax completely repadded in Black Kangaroo leather pads with round metal resonators, along with fresh corks where needed and chem cleaning. It also has a brand new Gator blue case and pad saver. No mouthpiece included. This sax is interesting because it has not one but two octave keys. Instead of having one automatic octave key like modern saxes this one had 2 manual octave keys vs the modern automatic one. This means to go higher than octave G# you must switch between the octave keys. I do not know the academic term for the manual octave mechanism hence why I have explained it the way I have. This is an extremely rare find and also helps date the instrument. This also gives you the ability to gain different sounds/tones/overtones/harmonics since you have control of which octave tone hole is open at one time. The only wear i see is on the bottom of the sax which is pictured, and a few tiny tiny dents which should be expected from the age. I checked it to a tuner and it seems to be low pitched and in tune. Please feel free to ask any questions. Pictures/videos/livestreams can be arranged if asked for. Offers will be considered. This is not a sax for a beginner but rather for a professional or serious collector. I assure you this sax will not disappoint.
