vintage gilded gesso bat wing pie crust pinched corner picture frame 12" x 8" - $118 - (Madras, OR)

Vintage gilded gesso batwing picture frame with a 1967 color print depicting Venice, Italy within. We have heard some consider the batwing corners style picture frame as another example of piecrust picture frames with the "piecrusting" occurring only in the corners. The frame measures approximately 12.25" wide by 8" tall (approximately 30.5 cm wide x 20.5 cm tall) measured at the front -- the frame has a slight inward slope from front to back so the back measures about 0.25" smaller. The print is framed under glass within the gilded picture frame, with the interior frame area measuring approximately 10.625" wide x 6.5" tall (approximately 27 cm wide x 16.5 cm tall). The image within the mat measures approximately 8.25" wide x 4" tall (approximately 21 cm wide x 10 cm tall). The sticker on the back reads: "Serie 67-7 / Venezia -- Isola di S. Giorgio e Bragozzo". The frame has no cracks in the corners, but the corners do show some slight scuffs -- one of these, at the lower right corner, shows a red color beneath the gilding, suggestive of the red shellac often used to cover gesso before gilding is applied.
