Other: Fine view of the trophy heads of five Dahl sheep from a hunting excursion by the hunting party of Capt. Guest. In the Alaska-Yukon Gazetteer of 1923/24, photographer Sylvia Sexton is listed as the “Proprietor of Sylvia’s Place: Confectionery and Tobaccos, Ice Cream and Sodas a Specialty, Developing, Printing, Enlarging, Framing, Seward, Alaska.” In addition, she is listed as City Treasurer. Additionally, in Seward at this time was Hotel Sexton (Seward’s Homey Hotel) operated by George Sexton (“21 years residence in Alaska”). The 1901 Report of the Governor of Alaska to the Secretary of the Interior also lists George Sexton as a Deputy US Marshall. Their relationship is not clear however the 1901 report also notes “photograph of Seward, loaned by George Sexton.” The Alaska State Library Historical Collection and the Seward Community Library Collection each hold samples of works by Sylvia Sexton. There is a series of images made of Capt. Guest’s hunting trip with noted Alaskan guide Charles Emswiler (sometimes spelled Emsweiler). Email with questions.
