1858 Tallis map - The Crimea by John Rapkin. Drawn and engraved by John Rapkin with Illustrations drawn and engraved by H. Winkles. A steel engraved map shows a great amount of detail, the Crimean Peninsula just prior to the time of the Crimean War which was a battle between the Russian Empire and several European powers for influence over territories of the declining Ottoman Empire. In addition, an inset map of Sebastopol and illustrations of Sebastopol, Balaklava Harbour, Banks of the Alma and Eupatoria. Published by The London Printing and Publishing Company. The map measures 13' x 10 1/4' plus full original margins. In good condition with some toning and foxing, some original outline colouring and one original centrefold (1/2 inch tear at top edge). $8.50 shipping to U.S. and Canada.
