Social Justice and Fiber Arts Workshop - N.A. - (State College, PA)

PAEA Region four presents a fibers workshop led by artist and teacher Julia Nelson. Participants will learn to use traditional materials and simple sewing techniques to create fabric collages (quilts) that help draw out their ideas about fairness, equality and self-identity. Through the community of artmaking that occurs with quilting and sewing circles, participants will develop ideas they can use with their own students. Jan Riggio’s home will become a temporary maker’s space where we can share, learn, explore, and experiment with a variety of fiber arts techniques, such as weaving, crocheting and knitting in addition to the fabric collages. Participants will create a collection of fiber art samples and will collaborate on weaving a rag rug.Participants are encouraged to bring samples of fiber arts projects they have done themselves or with students to share in our “fiber arts circle.”Light lunch served. Earn five hours of Act 48! $5.00 registration fee includes materials and refreshements.
