Her dream was to have a solo exhibit at RIT, and she had been planning it for more than a year. Sadly, she passed away at the end of May 2011, but her dream to showcase her work didn’t. “Whether I work on an intimate scale painted-collage or I work on a large scale, my concerns are for creating imaginary worlds, each with unique time and space frames,” said Cole, who described herself as an artist living with and beyond illness. “Found and created images take me on visual voyages that could be ancient or modern.” A native of New York City, Cole was a beloved professor at RIT who promoted student projects with an interdisciplinary focus, often combining disciplines like art and engineering into her design courses.
